They’ll join the host Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers in the event. The game schedule has yet to be announced, but it’ll be a round robin affair with the Flames’ prospects playing a game apiece against the top youngsters from Vancouver, Winnipeg and Edmonton.
Based on the tournament dates, you can expect the Flames to begin prospect camp around Thursday, Sept. 12 before heading to Penticton, and main camp will likely begin around Thursday, Sept. 19. The Young Stars Classic serves as a showcase for players in prospect camp, which traditionally includes players in the first couple years of their entry-level deals, along with unsigned drafted prospects from Canadian major junior and a smattering of invited try-out players. Collegiate and European prospects typically don’t attend the event.
For the curious, here’s the roster the Flames sent to Penticton a year ago:
It was a pretty youthful group.
We’ll have roster and schedule information for the tournament available in September.
