Calgary Flames Weekly Prospect Roundup

The Calgary Flames prospect pool has been growing in strength and depth over the past few years under GM Craig Conroy, and this summer, they added some more elite level talent to the organization.

With the 2026/27 NHL season almost upon us, many of those prospects have begun their season already, and while the big names in the NCAA begin this week and next, the CHL and games in Europe have started already.

So, as we will do throughout the 2026/27 season, let's take this chance on a Monday to take a look around the hockey world and wrap up the start to the year for many Flames prospects.

Europe

The biggest name for Flames fans to watch in Europe is Theo Stockselius, the former second-round pick that many believe will play a top-line role for Sweden later this year at the World Juniors tournament in Alberta. This year, he's taking the full-time leap to the SHL with Djurgardens, and while he's started slow with just one assist across four games played, he adjusted well in 2025/26, and the hope is that his game can take another leap in 2026/27.

Then, there's Alan Shaikhlislamov, a second-round pick of the Flames in 2026 who has caught fire early in the year with UFA Tolpar in the MHL, netting 6 goals in just 8 games played. That's the ability the Flames drafted him for, as he was seen as one of the best goalscorers beyond the first round of the 2026 NHL Draft, and while some criticized them for taking him so high, it was a swing well worth it for Calgary, with the early signs being very promising.

Alan Shaikhlislamov stats: 8GP, 6G, 4A, 10P, -1 differential.

Beyond that, there's been a few solid performers to keep an eye on, but for the rest of the players in Europe, it's going to be an uphill battle to make it to the National Hockey League with the Flames.

Canadian Hockey League

WHL

While the NCAA season is yet to get underway, representing the majority of Flames prospects, the CHL action is well underway, and unsurprisingly, there's plenty of Flames making immediate impacts. The first of which is Chase Harrington, who was only just released back to the Spokane Chiefs from Flames training camp, and immediately, the 2026 second-round pick was named captain of the team at 18-years-old. He may have only played one game thus far, but with a point to prove, Harrington may be the player that stands tallest among all Flames prospects when the 2026/27 junior season is all said and done.

Beyond that, the Flames have some very intriguing, high-upside prospects like Mace'o Phillips, Joe Iginla and Bode Laylin that should be producing at a very high level this season, with the lot of them getting off to very different starts this year.

OHL

In the Ontario Hockey League, the Flames have just one prospect this year in Simon Katolicky, who was a player taken in the fifth-round of the 2026 NHL Draft, with potential already being shown. Obviously, he has a big climb ahead of him if he wants to stand out among this crowded Flames prospect pool, but already this season, he's proving he can produce, and if he does it over a long period of time, he may have a future ahead of him.
