Calgary Flames will now allow ex-GM Brad Treliving to interview for other jobs

Late last week, it was Seravalli who reported that the Flames weren’t allowing Treliving to interview for other jobs around the NHL, due to the fact his contract hadn’t yet expired. His departure from the organization was announced on April 17th, and saw the team let go of head coach Darryl Sutter not long after.

As it stands, there are only three open GM roles in the NHL. One with the Flames, which Seravalli reported Friday is nearing its end, one with the Pittsburgh Penguins and after the bombshell news Friday, one with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Treliving stepped into the GM role with the Flames all the way back in 2014-15 and held the role for nine seasons. He had previously worked with the Phoenix Coyotes as an assistant GM and the GM of their AHL affiliates.

What makes Seravalli’s hint about the Leafs even more interesting is that Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan said Friday that while he was open-minded as to who the next GM could be in Toronto, hiring a person with experience would be attractive.
