Calgary’s Dustin Wolf is the best NHL goalie prospect right now
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Dustin Wolf just continues to pile up the saves and wins with the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers.

The 22-year-old goaltender is 16–5–1 with a .930 save percentage in 22 games with the Wranglers this season. And that’s not out of the ordinary for Wolf, who is 93–25–7 with a .928 over his entire AHL career.

Wolf has had a bit of a rough ride behind a leaky Calgary Flames team in his periodic NHL appearances this season, going 1–2–1 with an .893 save percentage, but that hasn’t deterred Daily Faceoff‘s Steve Ellis from believing he’s currently the best goaltending prospect affiliated with an NHL team.

The Flames originally selected Wolf in the seventh round (No. 214 overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft. He’s merely 6′ and 166 pounds, but the Gilroy, CA product has won his league’s Goalie of the Year award in each of the last four seasons and was also named AHL MVP in 2023.

Here’s an excerpt of what Ellis had to say about Wolf to Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk on Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff Live.

Frank Seravalli: Give me your best goalie prospect right now.

Steven Ellis: I’m going Dustin Wolf. He had a bit of a rocky run in the NHL with the Calgary Flames but I’m not worried in the slightest. He’s off to the AHL All-Star Game and for good reason, he’s got a 16–5–1 record. You can look at the save percentage there, he’s got four shutouts. He’s likely going to break his seven shutout run he had last year. Best goalie in the AHL for the third year running, we can award him that now, we don’t even need any other contenders. This guy’s unbelievable. I still can’t believe he fell into the seventh round. Go back to my tweet history, you’ll see me over and over again, every single round, ‘Dustin Wolf is still available, someone please pick him, this guy’s going to be so good.’ He continues to dominate every level he plays. He should be [with the Flames], it’s a bit of a logjam there, but once he’s there, you’re gonna see how good he is.
