The Montréal Canadiens enter the 2025–26 season with a much-improved roster and a growing sense of optimism. After years of building through the draft and making targeted trades, this is a team that might be ready to make a serious push—not just for a playoff spot, but potentially for a top-three finish in the Atlantic Division.
Ivan Demidov will finally get the chance to showcase his talent over a full 82-game season. The dynamic winger has already shown flashes of game-breaking skill, and with consistent ice time and the right linemates, he could be a major driver of Montréal’s offense. His presence changes the look of the Canadiens’ top six and gives them the kind of star power they’ve lacked in recent years.
On defense, the addition of Noah Dobson brings an elite offensive presence to the back end. Pairing him with Calder Trophy winner Lane Hutson gives Montréal two high-end puck-movers who can jumpstart the attack from their own zone. This kind of blue line depth not only boosts the power play but also makes the Canadiens a harder team to pin in their own end.
Newcomer Zachery Bolduc adds another intriguing dimension. While he can play on the wing, his ability to shift to center gives the Canadiens flexibility in their top six. A 25–30 goal projection seems reasonable for a player with his shot and net-front instincts. More importantly, his two-way game means he can be trusted in key situations, giving head coach Martin St.Louis more lineup options.
While Florida and Tampa Bay remain strong, the Atlantic isn’t as locked down as in past years. The Maple Leafs have made some solid additions, but the loss of Mitch Marner could pull them back toward the pack, bringing them closer to the competitive standing of Montréal and Ottawa. That opens the door for the Canadiens to grab a playoff spot, possibly even breaking the 100-point mark if everything clicks.
The bottom line is that Montréal’s mix of young stars, new additions, and emerging depth has them positioned to make a real run. For the first time in years, Habs fans have good reason to believe the playoffs are more than just a dream.
The question is whether their solid offense, led by Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield, can take yet another step forward and bring the other youngsters with them.
