Canadiens, Ducks team up for minor trade

The Montreal Canadiens hope for a return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2027. On Monday, Montreal is teaming up with the Anaheim Ducks for a trade.

“The Canadiens have acquired forward Sasha Pastujov from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Sean Farrell,” Montreal announced on social media.

Pastujov is seen as a player with a lot of upside. He is however short on experience.

“Pastujov, who has yet to appear in an NHL game, played 71 games for the AHL’s San Diego Gulls in 2025-26, recording 21 goals and 36 assists,” Sportsnet reported.

Farrell meanwhile does have some NHL experience.

“Farrell, 24, last appeared in the NHL during the 2022-23 season, where he played six games with one goal,” Sportsnet added.

Both Anaheim and Montreal made the playoffs during the 2025-26 campaign. Neither team made the Stanley Cup Final. Montreal lost to the Carolina Hurricanes, while the Ducks bowed out to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Montreal was one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference this past season. The Canadiens posted 106 points, but exhaustion caught up to them in the postseason. The club finished the campaign +27 in goal differential.

This offseason, the Canadiens are looking to re-shape the roster. Montreal just signed forward Jared Davidson to a one-year deal.

“Davidson, 24, played 10 games in the NHL with the Canadiens in 2025-26, recording one assist. The 5-foot-11, 183-pound forward also skated in 53 games with the Laval Rocket in the AHL last season, producing 16 goals and nine assists. The forward was drafted by the Canadiens in the fifth round (130th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft,” NHL.com reported.

The Canadiens also recently signed forward Hunter McCown to that same one-year contract.
