The Montreal Canadiens will be without forward Sean Monahan during Tuesday’s game against the Seattle Kraken as he deals with a lower-body injury, the club announced Tuesday evening.

Monahan, 28, made an early exit from Monday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks and did not return. After scoring in the first period, Monahan played just three shifts in the second after taking an awkward tumble in front of the Canadiens’ net.

The Canadiens said Monahan’s injury will be re-evaluated when the team returns to Montreal.

Monahan has six goals and 17 points in 25 games with the Canadiens this season. The 6-foot-2, 196-pound center spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Calgary Flames before being traded to the Canadiens in a cost-cutting move this past August.

The Canadiens will wrap up a four-game road trip against the Kraken on Tuesday. Monahan has worn a walking boot on his right foot throughout this Canadiens road swing, which started with his return to Calgary on Dec. 1.

Monahan is signed through the end of the 2022-23 season at a $6.375 million cap hit. He started his NHL career with seven consecutive 20-goal seasons in Calgary before suffering an injury-related decline in his final two years with the team.

Through 681 career games with Calgary and Montreal over parts of 10 NHL seasons, Monahan has scored 218 goals and 479 points. He’s added 10 goals and 21 points in 30 career playoff contests.

The Canadiens currently rank sixth in the NHL’s Atlantic Division with a 12-11-2 record and 26 points through 25 games. They’ll dress 11 forwards and seven defenders when they take on the Kraken at 10 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
