The Montreal Canadiens announced that forward Kirby Dach suffered a lower-body injury and will not return to Saturday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Dach went to the Canadiens’ dressing room in the first period after Blackhawks’ defenseman Jarred Tinordi bodychecked him into the Chicago bench.

He did not return for the second period and the team announced he would miss the rest of the game.

Dach had two assists in the season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.

Dach is in his second season with the Canadiens after being traded by the Blackhawks at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Dach hit career highs in 2022-23 with 14 goals, 24 assists and 38 points in 58 games.

Through five NHL seasons, Dach has 33 goals, 66 assists and 99 points in 212 career games. He was drafted third overall by the Blackhawks in 2019.
