Canadiens Loan Vinzenz Rohrer To Switzlerand

The Montreal Canadiens have loaned center prospect Vinzenz Rohrer to EV Zug of Switzerland’s National League for the 2026-27 season. Rohrer will play on a one-year contract with Zug that is believed to be one of the highest-paying deals in Switzerland, ending a three-year run with Zurich SC.

Rohrer’s junior career took him across the globe. After developing as a prolific part of Zurich’s youth program, he moved to the OHL’s Ottawa 67’s for his age-18 and age-19 seasons. Rohrer remained productive in the CHL, recording 97 points in 118 games with Ottawa and earning a third-round selection in the 2022 NHL Draft. Rather than jump to the AHL, the young center returned to Zurich to turn pro for his age-20 season in 2023-24.

That decision paid off quickly. Playing in mainland Europe allowed Rohrer to support his native Austria at multiple international events, including the 2024 World Championship. His first pro season overseas also saw him fill an important third-line center role as Zurich raced toward the National League’s 2024 championship. He finished that season with 19 points in 49 games.

Zurich repeated as champions in the 2024-25 season, while Rohrer climbed to 15 goals and 25 points in 52 games. He also represented Austria at the Olympic qualifiers and the 2025 World Championship. That gave him strong momentum, but both Rohrer and Zurich SC took a step back the following season, with the club finishing fourth and Rohrer producing just 12 points. He closed the year with his first stint in the Laval Rocket lineup, recording three points in six games.

Rohrer will now return to Switzerland with a new mission in mind. He joins another perennial contender in Zug, a club that won back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. Its lineup is now significantly younger and leans on veteran support, including former Canadiens winger Tomas Tatar, who scored 33 points in 41 games with Zug last season. Tatar finished second on the team in scoring behind Dominik Kubalik, who had 39 points. Those two veterans should help guide Rohrer as he tries to cement his value as a legitimate Canadiens prospect.
