Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood may not get to skate against the Chicago Blackhawks again this season, but he anxiously awaits their first meeting in 2025-26.
During Saturday's 6-2 Canucks victory, Chicago forward Jason Dickinson laid a hit from behind on Filip Chytil, sending him into concussion protocol.
Sherwood is sending out a warning message for Dickinson.
"That's back-to-back games that guys are taking liberties on our guys," Sherwood said on Sunday.
Canucks defenceman Elias Pettersson also took an elbow from Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary last week that resulted in a two-game suspension to the Calgary Flames forward.
"(Dickinson's) going to have to answer the bell next year because I know we don't play them again. That was a dirty hit. Unnecessary (with the Blackhawks trailing) 6-2. And then he doesn't have the whatever to step on the ice afterwards. Forby (Canucks defenseman Derek Forbort) asked him (to fight) and it is what it is. We'll get him next year."
This is Chytil's fifth concussion since making his NHL debut in 2018.
He missed a vast majority of last season because of a serious concussion and then was out for seven games earlier this season with an undisclosed upper-body injury.
Coach Rick Tocchet stated that Chytil is doing alright but remains in the concussion protocol. His condition will be evaluated over the next 48 hours before determining whether he will travel with the team for the upcoming six-game road trip.
The 25-year-old Czech center was acquired by the Canucks on Jan. 31 in a blockbuster trade that shipped J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers.
