A trio of Vancouver Canucks players have been named to their countries’ preliminary roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

On Monday morning, Team Latvia announced that goaltender Arturs Silovs and centre Teddy Blueger had been named to the country’s preliminary roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics, which are set to take place in Milan from February 6th to 22nd.

Preliminary rosters feature six players from every country that will be icing a team at the Olympics.

Unsurprisingly, Quinn Hughes was named to Team USA’s preliminary roster as well. Joining Hughes are Jack Eichel, Auston Matthews, Charlie McAvoy, Brady Tkachuk, and Matthew Tkachuk. Hughes was originally named to USA’s 4 Nations Face Off preliminary roster as well, but was unable to play in the tournament due to injury.

Pettersson and Hronek not named just yet

Just like when the 4 Nations Face Off preliminary rosters were announced, Canucks forward Elias Pettersson wasn’t one of the six names Team Sweden announced today.

Pettersson had a poor showing at the 4 Nations Face Off with Sweden, as he was relegated to fourth line minutes after beginning the tournament in the top six. He finished the tournament without a point through three games. Pettersson is coming off the most disappointing season of his career, having tallied just 45 points through 68 games. The Canucks are reportedly pleased with his offseason training to this point, and everyone in Vancouver is hopeful that Pettersson can bounce back and be the star player he once was.

Additionally, Filip Hronek was left off Team Czechia’s preliminary roster, which featured David Pastrnak, Ondrej Palat, Martin Necas, Pavel Zacha, Radko Gudas, and Lukas Dostal. Hronek will almost certainly be named to Czechia’s final Olympic roster, and it’s even a bit surprising he was left off the preliminary one.

The NHL has yet to announce it’s 2025-26 regular season schedule, but when they do, you can expect a pause in the middle of February as some players head to Italy while the rest head to Cabo.
