Canucks Prospect Adam Novotny Comes Out Flying

Well, Vancouver Canucks fans have another young player to watch. Adam Novotny has just returned to the Peterborough Petes after Canucks training camp, and apparently he didn't need long to get comfortable again. Novotny was named the OHL Player of the Week after putting up three goals, three assists and six points in three games.

That's a pretty good way to start the junior season.

Novotny Wastes No Time in His Debut Game.

Novotny made his season debut Thursday against Sarnia and immediately went to work. He scored twice and added two assists in a 7-4 win for Peterborough. Then, on Saturday, he added another goal and an assist against Ottawa. The Petes lost that one 6-3, but Novotny wasn't exactly the problem.

All three of his assists were primary assists, and he finished the week with 18 shots on goal. That's a lot of pucks going toward the net for a player who had just come back from NHL training camp. And that's probably the part Canucks fans should notice.

Vancouver Has Time With This Young Prospect.

Novotny is only 18 years old. Vancouver selected him 24th overall in the 2026 NHL Draft, and the Canucks don't need to rush him. That's actually a pretty nice position for the organization to be in. If Novotny continues producing in Peterborough, Vancouver can let him play big minutes, handle the puck and work on the parts of his game that need work. He doesn't have to be thrown into the NHL before he's ready just because he was a first-round pick.

The Czech winger already has some international experience, too. He won bronze at the 2025 World Junior Championship and silver in 2026. So this isn't a player completely new to playing important hockey.

The Interesting Part for Canucks Fans.

With a first-round pick, there's always a temptation to wonder when the player will arrive in the NHL. But maybe the better question right now is what Novotny can become. If he keeps piling up performances like this, Vancouver has something valuable: a young offensive player developing with the puck on his stick, without the pressure to save the NHL club immediately.

The Petes are back in action Thursday against Erie. For Canucks fans, that's worth watching. Novotny has started his junior season with a bang. Now we'll see if he can keep it going.
