The Vancouver Canucks have announced that they’ve signed centre Riley Patterson and winger Gabriel Chiarot to entry-level contracts.
“Over the past couple of weeks, we have been impressed by a number of our young players at both the showcase in Seattle and at Training Camp in Penticton,” said Canucks’ general manager Patrik Allvin in a statement announcing the signings. “We are happy to sign two of them, Riley Patterson and Gabriel Chiarot. Riley is a right-shot centre prospect who has made strides working with our development group the past couple years, while Gabriel has good drive, work ethic, and tenacity, and also has a nose for the net.”
Patterson was a fourth-round selection for the Canucks in the 2024 NHL Draft. His contract will come with an NHL cap hit of $923,333 for the next three years, taking him until he is 22. He has signing bonuses of $85,000 in all three years, with his AHL salary also coming at a total of $85,000 per season.
Patterson maintained his performance from his draft year during the 2024-25 season, where he had 25 goals and 34 assists for 59 points in 64 games in the OHL with the Barrie Colts, which was tied for the team lead in scoring with New York Islanders prospect Kashawn Aitcheson. He also had six goals and six assists for 12 points in 16 games during the Colts run to the Eastern Conference Final. He’ll be playing for the Niagara IceDogs in the 2025-26 season.
Patterson also had one goal and two assists during the Canucks’ two-game rookie showcase tournament against the Seattle Kraken.
Chiarot was a sixth-round pick for the Canucks in the recent 2025 NHL Draft. His contract has a cap hit of $916,667 for the next three seasons, taking him until he’s 21. He has signing bonuses of $75,000, and his AHL salary will be $85,000.
Chiarot saw excellent progression in his draft year, where he had 21 goals and 14 assists for 35 points in 66 games with the Brampton Steelheads. He also had one goal in six playoff games during their first round series. He’ll play for the Steelheads again this season.
Chiarot also had a goal during the Canucks’ rookie showcase tournament. Both Patterson and Chiarot were sent back to their junior clubs in the Canucks’ first cuts of their preseason roster on Sunday.
