According to reports, Washington Capitals forward and Team Canada selection Tom Wilson is officially listed as day-to-day after suffering an injury. He won’t play tonight, but it appears the team dodged a big bullet, and there is no fear Wilson won’t be available for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
As per several updates, nothing overly serious. Wilson (lower body) is day-to-day, said Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery. Aliaksei Protas (lower body) skated this morning and is a game-time decision tonight.
Carberry said:
“Yeah. When someone goes down or is being helped off the ice, you’re hoping that it’s just something that they can go in, get checked out, and come back out. But also, when you see situations like that, you get a little bit worried when someone can’t put weight on their leg, like ‘Willy’ in that scenario. So your mind goes to, ‘Oh jeez, is this something bad?’ So, thankful that it’s just day-to-day and he won’t play tonight, but we’ll see how he is tomorrow.”
Fortunately, Wilson is going to be fine, and it’s not long-term. He took a big hit from Connor Murphy and seems to be injured. While he was, it’s not a bad injury, showing how tough Wilson is.
