Capitals Goalie's Blunder Immediately Gets Called Out By Teammate

The Washington Capitals took a 2-0 series lead over the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night, with Logan Thompson delivering a standout performance in a 3-1 Game 2 win.

After stopping 25 of 26 shots and holding firm during a late Montreal push, Thompson sat alongside teammate Dylan Strome to answer questions from the media.

But the spotlight briefly shifted from Thompson’s play in net to a moment of confusion at the press conference table.

Perhaps it's because he's finding the series against the Canadiens too easy, or simply because of the grueling demands of the playoffs, but Thompson had a hilarious blunder when asked about his most recent outing.

“I thought the first two periods we controlled the play, and they didn’t really have much. So give credit to the guys for that,” Thompson said. “We knew they were going to come out in the third like they did last game. It’s easy to get into it when you make those saves. You’re definitely right back into the game. It could easily swing the other way if a couple of those go in and you’re fighting it, right?

”Luckily, things went my way tonight and we got the two points.”

Points, of course, aren’t awarded in the playoffs, where you either win and inch closer to getting four victories and advance, or lose.

Strome, seated to Thompson’s left, was quick to intervene.

“Playoffs—no two points,” Strome said.

“Sorry, win,” Thompson said, correcting himself.

Head coach Spencer Carbery  praised Thompson’s performance and credited him as the difference-maker in the final minutes of the game.

"He was the difference tonight in the third—he wins us that game in the third period," Carbery said. "You could feel the building with the energy with each save. It felt like he just got bigger and bigger and bigger.

"He was tested. He made some huge saves in that third period to keep us in front."

The Canadiens will host Games 3 and 4 starting on Friday night at Bell Centre.
