According to PuckPedia, the Washington Capitals signed forward Sheldon Rempal to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal carries an NHL cap hit of $775,000, with a minor-league salary of $450,000, through the 2025-26 season.

This is Rempal’s first NHL contract since his two-year deal with the Vegas Golden Knights came to an end at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season. His new AAV is the highest NHL salary for the Calgary native since the 2019-20 campaign, when he had a cap hit of $874,000.

Rempal spent the 2024-25 season overseas, playing with Salavat Yulaev Ufa of the Kontinental Hockey League. The former Clarkson University product flourished, scoring 31 goals and 30 assists for 61 points in 68 regular-season games. Then, he was a key part of the Ufa team that advanced to the semifinals of the Gagarin Cup Playoffs, potting 21 points in 19 games, leading all skaters in scoring. Ultimately, Salavat Yulaev was eliminated by the eventual champions, Yaroslavl Lokomotiv.

Prior to heading to Russia, Rempal established himself as a solid scorer in the American Hockey League. In four of his six seasons, he posted at least 40 points, including a career-high 69 points with the Abbotsford Canucks, the Vancouver Canucks AHL affiliate, during the 2021-22 season. In his most recent North American season, Rempal scored 45 points in 63 games with the Vegas Golden Knights’ top farm club, the Henderson Silver Knights.

In 328 AHL regular-season games, he has scored 108 goals and 144 assists for 252 points.

Rempal has also had a little bit of experience in the NHL. In his time with the Los Angeles Kings, Carolina Hurricanes, Canucks and Golden Knights, the 29-year-old has appeared in 21 games. In nine games with Vegas two seasons ago, he scored two goals and an assist.
