Capitals star Alex Ovechkin thinks Tom Wilson's suspension is a 'joke'

Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson received a seven-game suspension for boarding Boston Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo. One of his teammates thinks the decision to suspend Wilson is bogus.

Capitals star Alex Ovechkin described the Wilson suspension as a "joke," according to JJ Regan of NBC Sports Washington:

Wilson hit Carlo near the head area with time winding down in the first period. Carlo did not return to the game and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

The NHL said in its suspension video that there are "aspects" of the hit "that may skirt the line between suspendable and non-suspendable," but "it is the totality of the circumstances that caused this play to merit supplemental discipline."

This is Wilson's fifth NHL suspension, and he won't be eligible to return until March 20 against the New York Rangers.
