Boston Bruins superstar David Pastrnak made a wild proclamation on Twitter last month, stating that Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson "is the best goal scorer in the league," and now we know why he tweeted such a thing ... sort of.
According to ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, Pastrnak lost a bet to Wilson and had to tweet he was the best scorer in the NHL as a result. However, Wilson would not elaborate on what the bet was, which will cause us to forever wonder ... unless Pastrnak decides to discuss it.
Tom Wilson confirmed that David Pastrnak lost a bet, which resulted in this. Would not elaborate on what the bet was. @NHLBruins @Capitals https://t.co/tQQ7n47PEP

There's no way Wilson is a better scorer than Pastrnak, especially considering he won the Rocket Richard trophy this season alongside Alex Ovechkin after leading the league with 48 goals. So, the tweet caused a lot of curiosity among fans. Some even speculated that B's pest Brad Marchand stole Pastrnak's phone and tweeted it himself.
While Pastrnak tallied 48 goals, Wilson didn't do so bad for himself either. The 26-year-old, who is largely considered one of the NHL's tough guys, had a career year with 44 points and 21 goals.
The Bruins will play the Capitals on Sunday in their final game of round-robin action, so both guys surely will be exchanging jabs before playoff action begins.
