St. Louis Blues team captain Brayden Schenn has been listed as a potential trade possibility by NHL analyst Chris Johnston in a recent piece for The Athletic.
The St. Louis Blues are still feeling the sting of their painful setback in the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the divisional foe Winnipeg Jets early last month.
The Blues held leads of 2-0 and 3-2 in Game 7, heading into the final 2 minutes of play leading by a goal. But a historic comeback effort by the Jets with a pair of goals, including the game-tying goal with 1.6 seconds left in the game, eventually set up Adam Lowry's deflection goal in 2OT to capture both the contest and the series.
Right now, the offseason work has already begun for the Blues, who weren't projected by many to make the playoffs and yet still rode a 12-game winning streak near the end of the regular season to propel them back into a postseason spot.
TSN analyst Chris Johnston put together prime trading candidates from several teams that could be on the move this summer, and Blues fans will notice that team captain Brayden Schenn is one of them.
Johnston noted that Schenn's name was present in rumors at the NHL Trade Deadline and that he could potentially be persuaded to waive his 15-team no-trade list.
There was plenty of discussion around Schenn leading up to the trade deadline, but the Blues captain told the team his preference was to stay at that time. Could that change? Schenn's full no-trade clause is set to convert to a 15-team no-trade list this summer, which shifts more leverage to the front office if it chooses to reengage the market on the veteran center. The Blues set a high price on Schenn in talks last season. He remains a productive point producer who brings value at both ends of the ice.
Schenn is under contract through 2028 and scored 50 points (18G, 32A) in all 82 games.
