Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy, one of the top blue liners in the NHL, spoke about his experience in the 4 Nations Faceoff that ultimately ended his year.

The top blue liner for the Boston Bruins, defenseman Charlie McAvoy had his year end thanks to a shoulder injury that he suffered during the round-robin portion of the tournament.

Unfortunately for the Bruins, he wouldn't hit the ice for them for the remainder of the year thanks to the injury. They would also fail to return to the playoffs for the 1st time since 2015-16 while having to sell at the Trade Deadline.

During Boston's locker room clean-out day, McAvoy spoke about his experience and while he was clearly emotional about how things turned out, he still labeled it as an 'incredible' experience despite falling short.

Mentally, emotionally, physically, I've gone through so much because of that damn [4 Nations] experience. It cost me my season. It cost me my sanity in a lot of ways. None of this has been easy, and I get emotional when I talk about it.

Understandably being the competitive warrior that he is, having his year end thanks to injury wasn't something that McAvoy had been coming into the 4 Nations Faceoff thinking as a possibility.

It was an incredible experience, and I waited my whole life to be a part of something like that. But the way that it ended, and the aftermath of it, and what I had to go through...It cost me a lot more than I was willing to give.

He finished the year with 23 points (7G, 15A) in 50 total games; his presence on the blue line certainly could have helped the Bruins avoid missing the postseason, but it wasn't meant to be.

Both McAvoy and the Bruins have a long summer ahead of them before they return to the ice in the fall.
