Chicago Blackhawks Involved in Trade Talks With Young Top-20 Pick

Lukas Reichel had a career best season in 2024/25 for Chicago, and now it appears they're trying to move him for an immediate upgrade in their lineup.

In the 2020 NHL Draft, the Chicago Blackhawks used the No. 17 overall pick on winger Lukas Reichel, and through the first few years of his career, things have been off to a rather slow start.

He showed promise in 2024/25 however, tallying 22 points in 70 games played, and at the age of 23, the belief around Chicago is that he can potentially be a solid middle-six winger for years to come in the National Hockey League.

However, he may not be playing for Chicago when he does reach his prime, as a recent report from The Fourth Period has revealed that teams have been calling Chicago about him as the Blackhawks look for an immediate upgrade in their lineup.

Despite the size and the skill to compete at the top level, Reichel has just 20 goals and 54 points through his first 169 games in the NHL, but in a different situation, perhaps with more experience and talent around him, there's certainly a chance for him to thrive in the league.

It's unclear what the market for Reichel is out there, as he's shown flashes of being a good middle-six winger, but for teams looking to get younger, he may not quite have the potential they're looking for in order to give up a massive return for him.

Ultimately, Reichel could end up being a great player in the NHL, and if he is, whichever team lands him will benefit from that greatly, but given his production thus far, it's unlikely that the Blackhawks will get a huge return for the talented yet underwhelming 23-year old.
