Chicago Blackhawks reveal unfortunate Connor Bedard news

The Chicago Blackhawks will have to be without their star for a few months. After Connor Bedard suffered a shoulder injury in a scrimmage last week, the Blackhawks had to deliver some tough news, marking the worst-case scenario.

On Wednesday, the Blackhawks released a statement revealing that Bedard has undergone successful shoulder surgery and will be out up to four months.

Chicago Blackhawks team physician Dr. Michael Terry today released the following medical update:

“This morning, forward Connor Bedard underwent successful surgery to repair his left shoulder. We expect him to make a full recovery in an approximate timeline of four months.”

The four month timeline puts Bedard out for the start of the 2026-27 NHL season which begins in late September.

The soon-to-be 21-year-old Bedard was participating in a training session with Kaivo Hockey in Vancouver. He lost edge and crashed into the boards before leaving the ice and grabbing his left shoulder.

The former No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft, Bedard won rookie of the year in 2024. He’s set to enter his fourth NHL season and will is a restricted free agent as the Blackhawks hope to get a deal done with him to stay in Chicago.

Bedard is coming off a big 2025-26 season, leading Chicago with 75 points in 69 games and scoring 30 total goals. He has 203 points in 219 games so far in his young career.
