Cody Glass traded to the New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils have acquired Cody Glass from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a third-round pick in an unknown year with minor-league players involved.

The 25-year-old Cody Glass was drafted sixth overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Vegas Golden Knights. He played parts of two seasons in Vegas before being traded to the Nashville Predators for Nolan Patrick. Nashville traded him after three seasons to Pittsburgh where he’s played a bottom-six role.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba-born center is now on his fourth NHL team and will add center depth to a New Jersey team in the playoff hunt. Glass has four goals and 11 assists on the season with the Penguins so far.

In 238 NHL games, Glass has 86 points (33G, 53A) in that span with 35 points (14G, 21A) coming in his 2022-23 career-high season in Nashville.

Acquiring Glass is a great move by the Devils as he’s shown flashes of being a great player, given he’s only had one season above 70 games, it is a great swing on the Devils’ end for depth purposes.

It is expected that Cody Glass will slot in somewhere on the third or fourth line with the chance to move into a higher role. Glass will be a restricted free agent (RFA) at the end of the season.

Given Pittsburgh’s stance on the 2024-25 season by stockpiling picks for future years, you have to wonder if they continue this trend or utilize their draft capital to make larger moves to better their team now.
