With yet another big victory on Tuesday, the Colorado Avalanche have set a new NHL record by winning its 15th consecutive regular season road game in a 7-4 win over the New York Islanders.

The Avalanche’s last loss on the road was against the Dallas Stars on March 4, 2023. Colorado sits first in the Central Division with a perfect 6-0-0 record, outscoring its opponents 28-12 for a league-best goal-differential of 16.

The Buffalo Sabres previously had the best road winning streak, winning 14 straight from April 3 until Nov. 13, 2006 – spanning two seasons, just like Colorado. Detroit (2005-06) and Minnesota (2014-15) have the best single-season winning streaks of 12 wins each, with the Avalanche sitting third with the 11 they won at the end of last year.

The Avalanche also tied a team-best start to the season of 6-0-0 set in 2013-14, and sit one behind the franchise mark set by the Quebec Nordiques in 1985-86.

Ryan Johansen scored twice for the Avalanche, while Mikko Rantanen, Cale Makar, Bowen Byram, Ross Colton and Nathan MacKinnon all found the back of the net, as well. Goaltender Alexandar Georgiev stopped 27 shots as he improved to a .930 save percentage, despite allowing four goals.

“I did like the way we capitalized late,” coach Jared Bednar said after the game. “We are fortunate to be 6-0. The guys realize that. We are still trying to improve.”

Colorado can keep the streak alive against Pittsburgh on Thursday and Buffalo on Sunday – two teams off to difficult starts in 2023-24. The Avs will return back to Denver on Nov. 1 when they welcome the St. Louis Blues to town before again heading back on the road to face Vegas on Saturday, Nov. 4.

Rantanen leads the team with 12 points in six games, with Makar (nine points) and MacKinnon (seven) not far behind.
