Columbus Blue Jackets Acquire Goalie from St. Louis Blues

The Columbus Blue Jackets announced that they have received goalie Malcolm Subban from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for future considerations. The 30-year-old Subban has been assigned to the Cleveland Monsters, the Columbus AHL affiliate.

Subban was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the first round of the 2012 NHL Draft at 24th overall. In 2013, he was assigned to Boston’s AHL affiliate in Providence and made his NHL debut on February 20, 2015. He’s played 86 NHL games over the course of eight seasons. He played for the Buffalo Sabres, Chicago Blackhawks, Vegas Golden Knights, and Boston Bruins. His NHL record is 36-33-9 with a 3.10 GAA and a .898 save percentage.

Subban’s single-season best was with Vegas during the 2017-18 season. He finished with a 13-4-2 record, 2.68 GAA, and a .910 save percentage during 22 games.

During his 202 games in the AHL, he’s gone 89-75-32. His GAA is 2.62, and his .917 save percentage. Over that time, he’s also recorded eight shutouts. Subban has played for the Springfield Falcons, Rochester Americans, Rockford IceHogs, and Providence Bruins.

So far, in the 2023-24 season, Subban has an 11-14-4 record. He has a 2.94 GAA and .907 save percentage in his 31 games with the Falcons. He originally signed as a free agent with the Blues on July 1, 2023. He is on a one-year, two-way contract. He carries a $775k cap hit. At the end of this contract, he will be an unrestricted free agent.
