Minnesota Wild fans are holding their breath with hopes that young defenseman Brock Faber isn't going to miss significant time after he was struck in the face by a puck during a 6-1 loss to the Florida Panthers Wednesday night.
The scary scene happened in garbage time. With just 30 seconds left in the third period, and the Wild on the penalty kill, a puck hit the unsuspecting Faber in on the right side of his face. The 22-year-old former Minnesota Gopher grabbed his face and immediately left the ice.

After the game, Wild head coach John Hynes said Faber was being evaluated.
“There’s always concern,” Hynes said. “For him to still be evaluated, there’s obviously a concern for him. First and foremost, that he is OK because I don’t have that knowledge now.”
The last thing the Wild can afford right now is another injury. They're already shorthanded thanks to injuries to goalie Filip Gustavsson, forwards Joel Eriksson Ek, Yakov Trenin and Jakub Lauko, along with defenseman Jake Middleton.
Still, no excuses from the head coach.
“You need to be able to find ways to win games. We have capable players. We need some guys to step up, that’s for sure," Hynes said. "When you have a healthy team, certain guys play in certain roles. But usually, guys want more. Now you have the opportunity. We need a complete team effort with everybody playing to their max capability. Then you play with strong structure. Right now, coming into Friday, we’ve got to get the team to play at max capacity.”
The Wild are not practicing Thursday and there won't be any media availability until Friday's morning skate, which is ahead of a 7:10 p.m. game against Utah.
