Conn Smythe Winner Linked to Five Specific Teams by Elliotte Friedman Ahead of Likely Offseason Trade

Jonathan Marchessault is seemingly open to a trade this summer, but according to Elliotte Friedman, there's only five teams he would be open to joining.

The 2024/25 season didn't go the way that anyone in Nashville would have expected, and after a summer of signing some big names, it appears that their attempt to get back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs has set the team back several years.

However, they may be able to recoup some assets from these big free agent signings, as Jonathan Marchessault is reportedly open to being moved this summer, however, there's one catch.

According to Elliotte Friedman, Marchessault, who currently plays for one of six teams in the NHL in a state with no tax wants to remain in one of those stats, limiting his options to Florida, Tampa Bay, Dallas, Seattle and his former team, the Vegas Golden Knights.

This has been a major story in the NHL as of late, with many calling out the no-tax states advantage over other teams as something the league should take a look at, and while this isn't against the NHL rules yet, it certainly highlights why so many are frustrated over this situation.

In Friedman's report, he reveals that Marchessault's blunt attitude towards this situation has him rubbing some people the wrong way in Nashville, and after signing a long-term deal last off-season, this may impact his ability to be traded this summer.

Ultimately, there's going to be plenty of interest in Marchessault around the league, but with his demands of his new team, that will limit the chances that he's traded, so keep an eye on this story in the coming weeks.
