Connor Hellebuyck may be contemplating rejoining the Winnipeg Jets, but there are many who wouldn’t be happy with that

The Fourth Period: Connor Hellebuyck continues to train on his own as he awaits a trade. There has been some trade interest but nothing appears close. There are some wondering if Hellebuyck will think about returning to the team as the forfeited dollars continue to grow.

David Pagnotta said on NHL Network that Hellebuyck’s return to the Jets wouldn’t be met with open arms. A source within the team said that there are a lot of Jets players that wouldn’t be happy.

Daily Faceoff: David Pagnotta on Morning Cuppa Hockey on the idea of Connor Hellebuyck returning to the Winnipeg Jets, and it’s not just about the money. Not many from the Jets side of things would be happy with this.

“So going into the weekend, there was a lot of chatter that he was starting to contemplate internally, anyway, going back to Winnipeg. And how would that, how would that look? How would that be? How would that turn? How would that evolve? Everything tied to it.

But it’s not just about the money; it’s also about game action. He didn’t have training camp. Skating on his own with whatever he’s doing. Like, you got to get into practice mode. You got to get into game readiness, especially for goalies. You lose out on training camp. You’re already way behind the eight ball. So it’s all-encompassing in terms of what the contemplation is.

That being said, think and the initial responses that I’ve received have been not welcoming him back with open arms by any stretch. It could be ugly if that’s the decision that he, that he makes. And, and I understand why he would want to do it. But he already made one decision. Now you’re coming back. I don’t think there are a lot of guys in that room that are overly happy. That would be overly happy having him back there.

This is something that may play out, may not necessarily play out this week, may take a little bit more time depending on where things are going. And the Jets management squad, they’re in full, they’re in the driver’s seat in this, in this scenario.

So, you know, we’ll, we’ll see kind of if this does push the envelope in terms of maybe creating some additional sense of urgency to make a move sooner than later.

But from, from what I understand, at least internally anyway, they’re starting to determine when might be the best time to go back to Winnipeg, and then, you know, you’re gonna have to deal with all the repercussions tied to it beyond the room. I mean, I don’t think management’s happy. I don’t think ownership’s happy. The fans here as hell aren’t happy. So there’s a lot that kind of goes back with that decision.”
