After another dominant Oilers win in Game 3, Connor McDavid spoke to reporters about the main reasons why the team is suddenly surging vs. the Stars.
Each win counts the same in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid is encouraged by the different methods his club has found to get the job done in the Western Conference Final.
'You have to win games different ways,' McDavid said, per NHL.com's Mike Zeisberger. 'You've got to have dominant nights, you've got to have nights where maybe your goalie is better than theirs, and you've got to have nights where your special teams just gets it done.'Got to find different ways to win games in different ways, and, obviously, we did it again tonight.'
After a defensive masterclass performance to take Game 2, the Oilers shifted gears in Game 3 on Sunday, blitzing the Dallas Stars with high-octane offense, despite the Stars holding an edge in underlying numbers.
McDavid led the way with two goals in the 6-1 blowout, which gave Edmonton a 2-1 series lead. Despite having just one goal in his previous 10 games, he had 12 assists during that span.
'I think people forget he's a 60-goal scorer,' linemate Zach Hyman said. 'I mean, he's probably an underrated goal-scorer. He makes the right play, whether it's a pass or a goal, right?'Best player in the world. And when he has an opportunity to shoot it, and he shoots it, there's a good chance it goes in.'
Now leading all playoff scorers with 22 points in 14 games, McDavid is chasing another elite postseason.
He captured the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP last year, with Edmonton falling just short in the Final, with a breathtaking 42-point binge, the fourth-highest in NHL history.
The Oilers will attempt to move ahead in the series 3-1 when they host Game 4 on Tuesday night.
