Conor Garland Causes Controversy When Asked About Signing An Extension With The Vancouver Canucks

Conor Garland's future hasn't been discussed much, but after he was recently asked about it, there could be some major controversy on the way for Vancouver.

This off-season is going to be a crucial one for the Vancouver Canucks with Brock Boeser likely on the way out, and with Quinn Hughes' future a key topic in Vancouver, the last thing the organization wants to see is another key name on the way out.

Unfortunately, that's a topic that's now been brought up, as 29-year old Conor Garland, who has been with the team over the last four years has now addressed his future with the organization.

When asked about re-signing with Vancouver beyond his current deal, this is what Garland had to say:

Well I mean I love Vancouver it's a great city. I warmed up to it this season ya know winning helps.

While Garland admitted he loves Vancouver he refused to commit to the team long-term revealing that is up to his agents.

I've got a great agent he handles that stuff. I just play hockey and that's what I love doing. That's how I look at it that's up to him.

Usually, when a player is asked about their future on a team they want to stay with, they will articulate that very clearly and very easily, and while things can change even after they say something like that, at least it gives the fan base hope.

In this situation, Garland has not done that at all, and now, the fans on social media called it out rather quickly, speculating that when his contract comes up after the 2025/26 season, Garland is likely on the way out too.

This past season, Garland posted 19 goals and 50 points, the second time he had 50 or more in his four seasons with Vancouver after signing a five-year, $24.750 million deal with the team, and now, there's every chance he leaves in free agency.

It's unclear how much this could effect the Hughes situation moving forward, but as of right now the team should be looking to put important pieces around him, and now with yet another player potentially wanting out, it doesn't bode well for the future of the Canucks.
