Joel Quenneville is back behind the bench in the NHL, and now, his team may be looking to acquire his former captain in the controversial Jonathan Toews.
The Anaheim Ducks have built quite the strong young core, with the likes of Troy Terry, Leo Carlsson and Cutter Gauthier all presenting as potential stars of the future in the NHL.
This off-season, the organization looked to take a step forward with the hiring of the controversial Joel Quenneville as their newest Head Coach following the departure of Greg Cronin.
Now, it appears Quenneville could look to make his mark on this team, as reports have revealed that he could be a key piece of the puzzle to lure a former Chicago Blackhawks captain to Anaheim.
After revealing that Jonathan Toews is serious about his comeback bid, top NHL insider Elliotte Friedman hinted at the possibility that he could land with the Ducks, wondering if they could take a run at him.
"The reports are out now that Jonathan Toews is going to do his comeback next year. I do wonder if Anaheim takes a shot at this. It makes a lot of sense."
Not only does the connection to Quenneville make sense, but this is a team lacking strong leadership beyond captain Radko Gudas, and with the young forward group needing a veteran to help them develop, he makes a very interesting fit for the Ducks.
Ultimately, the Winnipeg Jets and Toronto Maple Leafs are just two of a few teams that could potentially looking to acquire Toews on the free agency market this off-season, but with the connection to Quenneville, one can't count out the Ducks as a landing spot.
