Corey Perry Enters Oilers History Books During Game 3 Loss to Vegas

Before the chaos of a last-second own goal ended Game 3, Corey Perry made Edmonton Oilers history during his team's 4-3 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.

In a first period for the ages that briefly had Rogers Place rocking, Perry scored two goals in under four minutes.

That turned Perry into the oldest player in Oilers franchise history to record a multi-goal game in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The NHL’s public relations team confirmed the record on social media, noting Perry eclipsed Willy Lindstrom’s 1984 mark.

“Corey Perry became the oldest player in @EdmontonOilers history to score a multi-goal game in the #StanleyCup Playoffs,” the league wrote.

At 39 years and 359 days, Perry also joined Nicklas Lidstrom (41 years and eight days old) and Teemu Selanne (40 years and 288 days old) as the only players older than 39 to accomplish the feat in playoff history.

Perry opened the scoring just over seven minutes in, converting a centering feed from Connor McDavid.

The veteran struck again less than four minutes later, tipping Evan Bouchard’s shot on a power play to give the Oilers a 2-0 lead.

Perry, playing on the top line with McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, has been a surprising contributor in this latest Stanley Cup run, notching seven points in nine games.

His efforts in Game 4, however, were undone by a Reilly Smith goal with just 0.4 seconds left in regulation.

“It’s probably more deflating losing the way we did, not getting to overtime,” Perry said about the Oilers' ultimate fate on Saturday. “It’s happened twice to us in these playoffs. You use it as motivation.

“We didn’t have our best stuff tonight. We can look around the room and everybody will say the same thing. We had that opportunity, and we know that we can be a lot better."

The Oilers and the Golden Knights will meet again on Monday, when Game 4 is scheduled to take place in Edmonton with puck drop set for 9:30 p.m. ET.
