Arizona acquired the pick used to select Lamoureux in a trade with the Edmonton Oilers on draft day.
The Coyotes traded pick No. 32 (previously obtained from the Colorado Avalanche in the Darcy Kuemper deal) to the Oilers in exchange for forward Zack Kassian, pick No. 29, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2024 third-round pick.
Lamoureux spent the 2021–22 season playing for the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The Laval, Quebec product scored four goals and 24 points in 54 games with Drummondville in his draft year.
The Coyotes selected three players in the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft. Logan Cooley, taken at No. 3, will head to the University of Minnesota next season and Conor Geekie, selected at No. 11, currently plays for the WHL’s Winnipeg Ice and already signed his entry-level deal with Arizona.
Arizona selected five defensemen in the 2022 NHL Draft: Lamoureux, Artem Duda (No. 36), Jeremy Langlois (No. 94), Matthew Morden (No. 131), and Maksymilian Szuber (No. 163).
