Coyotes add forward Alex Kerfoot on two-year deal
Alexander Kerfoot Perry Nelson-USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Coyotes have signed forward Alex Kerfoot to a two-year contract, PHNX Sports’ Craig Morgan reported Saturday afternoon.

Kerfoot, 28, scored 10 goals and 32 points in 82 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2022–23 regular season. He added a pair of goals in 11 games during the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

According to Morgan, Kerfoot’s new deal with the Coyotes carries a $3.5 million annual cap hit, exactly the same as what he made in his four years with the Maple Leafs.

Kerfoot is the latest addition to a Coyotes team that has arguably been the busiest in the entire Western Conference during the 2023 unrestricted free agency period.

The New Jersey Devils originally selected Kerfoot in the fifth round (No. 150 overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft. The 5-foot-10 center never signed with the Devils, though, opting instead to become a college free agent upon the conclusion of his four-year career at Harvard University.

Kerfoot elected to sign a two-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche in 2018. After those two years, in which he scored more than 40 points both times, he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs alongside Tyson Barrie and a sixth-round draft pick in exchange for Nazem Kadri, Calle Rosen and a third-round pick.

In his four years with the Maple Leafs, Kerfoot topped out at 13 goals and 51 points during the 2021–22 season. He has collected 74 goals and 219 points in 442 career games over six NHL seasons with the Avalanche and the Maple Leafs.

The Coyotes have also signed forwards Jason Zucker, Nick Bjugstad, and Alex Galchenyuk, as well as defenseman Troy Stecher and goaltender Matt Villalta, to open the 2023 UFA period.

Arizona has additionally signed forward Travis Barron to an NHL contract. The 24-year-old winger spent the last two seasons on an AHL deal with the Tucson Roadrunners, collecting 19 goals and 42 points in 114 games.
