The Maple Leafs were embarrassed on Wednesday night, and while there were many issues with the team, Craig Berube has called out Max Domi following the loss.
Following a 6-1 defeat that sees them go down 3-2 in the series with the Florida Panthers, there is plenty of blame to go around for the Toronto Maple Leafs, with fans on social media seemingly calling out everyone on the team after their lacklustre performance.
There's been criticism for captain Auston Matthews, Joseph Woll in net, Mitch Marner and everyone in between, but after the game, Head Coach Craig Berube was asked about Max Domi, with the veteran coach taking a shot at his forward.
'It's definitely an issue that we've got to talk about and discuss and figure out what we're going to do there.'
Clearly Berube was frustrated with the penalties that Domi took in Game 5 and the ones he's taken all series long, and while it hadn't been hurting the team too much up to this point, it certainly had an effect on Wednesday as he took five penalties and spent 18 minutes in the box, leading the Panthers to go 1/4 on the powerplay.
Sure, it's not solely Domi's fault, as the team couldn't get any offense going, tallying just one goal on 32 shots in the game, but with Domi's penalties constantly breaking up any consistency and rhythm they could find, it certainly derailed any chance for them in this matchup.
It's unclear if he's considering benching Domi for a must-win Game 6 in Florida, but these comments suggest definite frustration, which could lead to plenty of changes for the lineup before what may be the final game of the season for Toronto.
