Craig Berube is the new head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs and if one thing is certain, he has not pulled any punches.
When he has something to say about his team, he says, it no questions asked. He will hold the team accountable regardless of what the situation is. For instance, the team lost last night against the New York Rangers by a score of 4-1. After the game, Berube was brutally honest about what the team did wrong, despite running into a hot goalie.
'We had opportunities. I think we can do a better job of taking his eyes away a little bit more. We had a lot of looks. We got to execute better in the third on the power play and 6-on-5.'
Furthermore, Berube had a lot to say about one of his young stars, Pontus Holmberg. There have been times this season when Holmberg has actually struggled quite a bit. This was true last night, and Berube made sure to say something about it.
'He's got to battle a little bit harder for pucks and hang onto the pucks a little bit more like he was in training camp. He looks just a little step behind right now maybe'
This should get Holmberg to put that extra effort in, moving forward. The team needs all hands on deck, and that means Holmberg and many others have to be better.
