Dallas must act fast to grab this dependable Sharks defenseman

The San Jose Sharks are reportedly open to trading defenseman Mario Ferraro ahead of the 2025-26 season, and the Dallas Stars should be paying close attention.

Ferraro, 26, is entering the final year of his four-year, $13 million contract and has become one of the most reliable two-way defenders on the market.

According to a report from the Times of India, multiple playoff contenders have already expressed interest in landing Ferraro before his deal expires.

Why Mario Ferraro could stabilize the Dallas Stars' defense and keep them in Cup contention

Ferraro averaged more than 21 minutes per game last season, often tasked with shutting down top opponents while adding 21 points and a plus-3 rating for a struggling Sharks squad.

His penalty-killing ability and physical edge make him an ideal fit for a Stars team that still needs more depth and grit on the right side of its blue line.

One analyst told the outlet:

"Ferraro's cap hit is reasonable for a proven top-four defenseman, and his style is perfect for a team that wants stability without a massive long-term commitment."

I think the Stars could benefit from making this move, even if it means parting with a mid-round draft pick or a younger depth forward.

Ferraro's presence would ease the workload on players like Thomas Harley and Miro Heiskanen, giving Dallas a more balanced defensive rotation when it matters most.

Making this move now could be the difference between Dallas cruising through the regular season or scrambling to fix its defense at the trade deadline.

With other contenders circling, Jim Nill may need to act fast if he wants to keep the Stars ahead in a tight Central Division race.
