Yesterday, the renowned insider Elliotte Friedman shared a worrying statement for Dallas Stars fans about tensions in the locker room following yet another disappointing Conference Finals elimination at the hands of the Edmonton Oilers.
Reports confirmed that DeBoer's decision to remove Jake Oettinger from the game after allowing two goals on the Oilers' first two shots of the game wasn't appreciated by some players.
In breaking news, the Dallas Stars announced that they are parting ways with DeBoer.
The team shared an official press release:
FRISCO, Texas - Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that Pete DeBoer has been relieved of his head coaching duties. Effective immediately, the search will begin for the next head coach of the Dallas Stars."After careful consideration, we believe that a new voice is needed in our locker room to push us closer to our goal of winning the Stanley Cup," Nill said. "We'd like to thank Pete for everything that he has helped our organization achieve over the past three seasons and wish him nothing but the best moving forward."
Nill will hold media availability today (Friday, June 6) at 12 p.m. CT in the interview room at Comerica Center (2601 Avenue of the Stars, Frisco, TX 75034).
DeBoer earned a 149-68-29 record in 246 regular-season games over three seasons with the Stars, leading the club to three consecutive Western Conference Final appearances. He posted a 29-27 record in 56 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
DeBoer joined the Stars organization two years ago, and led the team to the Conference Finals twice.
Since the 2015-16 season, DeBoer has been one of the more consistent coaches in the League, leading his teams to deep playoff runs every season, but has never won a Stanley Cup.
With all head coaching positions filled in the NHL, DeBoer isn't likely to return to the League next season, unless he agrees to take on assistant-coaching duties.
Also, his availability could push a team to make a move, as we saw when the St. Louis Blues unexpectedly fired Drew Bannister after Jim Montgomery parted ways with the Boston Bruins last season.
Stay tuned for updates.
