The new Stanley Cup odds are out, and the Dallas Stars are once again listed among the favorites, but the real question is whether this is finally the year they break through.
Sportsbooks released updated Cup odds ahead of the 2025-26 season, and Dallas checks in at +1000, tied for sixth-best in the league. That position cements the Stars as a clear contender, though they trail behind some familiar names.
The top of the list reads:
TEAM
ODDS
Florida Panthers +600
Carolina Hurricanes +800
Colorado Avalanche +800
Edmonton Oilers +850
Vegas Golden Knights +850
Dallas Stars +1000
Tampa Bay Lightning +1400
New Jersey Devils +1600
Toronto Maple Leafs +1800
Los Angeles Kings +2000
Winnipeg Jets +2500
For three straight years, Dallas has fallen just short in the Western Conference Final. Twice, it was Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers that ended their run, and before that, the Vegas Golden Knights. Those very teams remain near the top of the betting odds again, showing how tight the West continues to be.
Dallas, however, has every reason to believe their window is still wide open. With Mikko Rantanen, Jason Robertson, Roope Hintz, and Wyatt Johnston up front, plus Miro Heiskanen and rising defenseman Thomas Harley on the blue line, this roster is built for another deep run.
The addition of grit with Colin Blackwell and the return of Radek Faksa only make them tougher to play against.
Goaltending also plays into the odds. Jake Oettinger remains one of the most trusted playoff goalies in the league, and his presence gives Dallas a reliable last line of defense in a conference loaded with firepower.
Why +1000 feels both fair and underestimated
Oddsmakers are cautious with Dallas because of what's happened the last three springs. They're consistently good enough to reach the Conference Final, but they haven't broken through to the Cup. That makes them a safer middle option for bettors, behind the star-studded Panthers, Avalanche, and Oilers.
I think this year feels different. With Glen Gulutzan stepping in as head coach and young players like Johnston and Bourque improving, Dallas has both experience and upside. +1000 odds may not make them the overall favorite, but it shows they're firmly respected among the league's elite.
