The Montreal Canadiens have announced that defenseman David Reinbacher will be out four weeks with a broken metacarpal bone suffered in Thursday Night’s preseason game vs the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is the second straight season that Reinbacher has gotten hurt in the preseason. Reinbacher was expected to start the season in the AHL with the Laval Rocket. The good news is that he will likely miss less than a month of regular-season action, with the AHL still two weeks away from the start of its regular season. It’s going to be an important year for Reinbacher and the Canadiens as they will look to see how he does in his first full season in North America. He should be a big part of Laval’s blueline to start the year once he gets back from his injury.

Reinbacher, 20, was drafted by the Canadiens fifth overall in the 2023 NHL Draft. Before playing in North America, Reinbacher spent parts of three seasons in Switzerland with EHC Kloten. In 108 games, he would put up five goals and 39 assists for 44 points in 108 games. He would make his North American debut at the end of the 2023-24 season with the Rocket. In 21 career games with Laval, he’s put up four goals and six assists for 10 points. During the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs, he put up two goals and four assists for six points in 13 games. He has yet to burn off the first year of his entry-level contract.
