Derrick Pouliot Waived by the Chicago Blackhawks

The Roster Takes Shape

Each day that goes by sees another name crossed off the training camp list. Yesterday, a trio of prospects, including Ryan Roobroeck, were sent down to their amateur squads. Today, the 32-year-old defenseman is the next cut.

Derrick Pouliot was the former 8th overall pick back in 2012. Despite his talent and pedigree, Pouliot never found consistent NHL action. His best season came with the Vancouver Canucks in the 2017-18 season. Since then, Derrick has bounced around the AHL with multiple organizations.

As mentioned previously, the Chicago Blackhawks acquired Pouliot from the New York Rangers via their affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack.

What’s On Tap

On Tap for Pouliot is likely another year in the minors where he has found success on his own. He will join a familiar Rockford IceHogs squad, and if the lines Saturday night were anything to go by, he will play alongside Kevin Korchinski.
