Detroit Red Wings in NCAA Tournament

The Detroit Red Wings currently have 14 prospects playing in the NCAA, one of whom has signed a two-year entry-level contract that will begin in the 2024-25 season, he is reporting to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL on an amateur tryout for the remainder of this season. Out of the 13 remaining players, nine of them will be playing in the NCAA Tournament including goalie Trey Augustine who led Michigan State to a Big Ten regular season championship and a Big Ten Conference Tournament championship; he was also named MVP of the Big Ten Tournament. So who are the prospects that will be taking part and how did they do this season with the Tournament set to begin with the first four games of the first round on Thursday and the other four first-round games on Friday.

Red Wings Prospect in NCAA Tournament

Goalie – Trey Augustine – Michigan State

Augustine this season went 22-8-2 with a 2.88 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage, he had two shutouts on the season. In the two games of the tournament, he stopped 70 of the 75 shots he faced and in the Championship game, he stopped 33 of the 37 shots he faced.

Forward – Red Savage – Michigan State

Savage this season recorded 26 points coming on ten goals and 16 assists; he finished sixth on the team in points, goals, and assists. In the Big Ten Tournament, he didn’t record a point.

Defenseman – Shai Buium – Denver

Buium recorded 34 points this season on seven goals and 27 assists; he finished tied for fifth in points, and he was fourth in assists on the team. In the NCHC Tournament in four games, he had three points on three assists with those points coming in the Semifinals and the Championship.

Defenseman – Cooper Moore – Quinnipiac

Moore this season had 22 points on three goals and 19 assists; he finished tied for ninth on the team in points, and seventh on the team in assists. In three games of the ECAC Tournament, Moore only had one point coming on an assist.

Forward – Dylan James – North Dakota

James this season had 19 points coming on nine goals and ten assists; he finished seventh on the team in points, goals, and assists. In the NCHC Tournament in three games, he recorded two points on a goal and an assist.
