Detroit Red Wings Place Six on Waivers

The Detroit Red Wings today placed six players on waivers with the hopes of sending them down to the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL. The Griffins are about to open their training camp, and the Red Wings need to get their roster down to 23 before Monday, when they have to submit their roster for the start of the 2025-26 season. The Red Wings have placed forwards Sheldon Dries, Dominik Shine, John Leonard, and Austin Watson, along with defenseman William Lagesson and Ian Mitchell, on waivers.

Sheldon Dries

Dries spent last season with the Griffins, playing in 65 games. He recorded 40 points on 25 goals and 15 assists. He was a plus-one with five power-play goals, a shorthanded goal, and seven game-winning goals.

Dominik Shine

Shine played in nine games with the Red Wings, recording an assist; he was a minus-one. In 61 games with Grand Rapids recorded 46 points on 14 goals and 32 assists. He was a -13 with five power-play goals, a shorthanded goal, and four game-winning goals.

John Leonard

Leonard signed with Detroit in the offseason after spending last season with the Charlotte Checkers. In 72 games with the Checkers, he recorded 61 points on 36 goals and 25 assists. He was a +21 with ten power-play goals, five shorthanded goals, and eight game-winning goals. He finished tied for third in the AHL in goals and tied for first in shorthanded goals.

Austin Watson

Watson last season, in 13 games for the Red Wings, scored three goals; he was a plus-one. In 60 games for the Griffins, he recorded 42 points on 19 goals and 23 assists. He was a plus-ten with seven power-play goals, three shorthanded goals, and two game-winning goals.

William Lagesson

Lagesson, in seven games for Detroit, had an assist; he was a minus-one. In 23 games for the Griffins, he had nine points on three goals and six assists. He was a +13.

Ian Mitchell

Mitchell, in 15 games for the Boston Bruins, recorded an assist and was a minus-two. In 47 games for the Providence Bruins, he recorded 27 points on four goals and 23 assists. He was a +11 with three power-play goals.
