Up for grabs is a massive six-foot-six forward who has been surprisingly placed on waivers by the Detroit Red Wings

If NHL teams are looking to add size and grit to their lineup, this just might be the guy to grab.

Tim Gettinger, a massive forward who comes in at six-foot-six, and 215 lbs, has been placed on waivers.

Tim Gettinger was a fifth round draft pick of the New York Rangers back in 2016. Despite the size he adds to a roster, he's played just 16 games in the NHL since then.

After spending most of five seasons with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL, Tim Gettinger signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Detroit Red Wings in 2023, which was extended for 2024. However, he hasn't played in either the NHL or AHL this season due to injury.

Gettinger appears to be ready to make his return, and will be assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins, unless someone wants to take a chance on the rugged 26-year-old.

There hasn't been a huge lot of waiver wire actions this week, although the Western Conference-contending Edmonton Oilers did claim Kasperi Kapanen from the St. Louis Blues in a bit of a surprise move.

Edmonton Oilers on the verge of trading key players in massive shake-up

With trade rumors heating up again in Edmonton, it's clear the Oilers are preparing for another Cup run, but getting past Dallas won't be easy. The Edmonton Oilers are once again facing a familiar situation: loaded with talent, backed into a win-now window, and flirting with another all-in approach at the trade deadline. This time, though, the road to the Stanley Cup looks more crowded, especially in the Western Conference. The Dallas Stars aren't just contenders anymore. They might be the team that Edmonton has to beat. In a recent piece from The Athletic, NHL insider Allan Mitchell named five Oilers who could be dangled as trade bait if Edmonton goes full throttle again. That list includes goalie Stuart Skinner, winger Matt Savoie, and prospects Vasily Podkolzin, Beau Akey, and Maxim Berezkin. These aren't throwaway names. Skinner alone has started 50 playoff games and was in net for the first two of the 2025 Stanley Cup Final. "This team has already given up a lot of futures to win now," Mitchell explained. "And they might do it again, depending on how the season plays out." The Oilers want the Cup, but the Dallas Stars might be their biggest roadblock in the West While Edmonton debates whether to spend more future capital, the Dallas Stars have quietly built one of the deepest, most balanced rosters in hockey. With Jason Robertson, Miro Heiskanen, Wyatt Johnston, and Mikko Rantanen, they've mixed youth and star power better than almost anyone. And they've done it without constantly emptying the cupboard. In fact, the Stars might now be the Oilers' biggest nightmare in the Western Conference. They've ended playoff runs before and could do it again. Personally, I don't think Edmonton gets past Dallas unless they hit on every single trade they make. The Stars are built to last. The Oilers are built to win now, or risk it all.

Jalen Milroe surges past former NFL starter on first Seattle Seahawks depth chart

Despite being viewed as a potential first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, former Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe ended up sliding into the third round. The 22-year-old — who was the starter for Alabama for two seasons — was selected with the No. 92 pick by the Seattle Seahawks. Although every player's dream is to go in the first round, Milroe likely couldn't have gone to a better situation. There is virtually no pressure on him as the Seahawks signed former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold to a three-year, $100.5 million contract this offseason, and they also have Drew Lock, who has started 28 career games on the roster as well. However, based on ESPN's initial depth chart, Milroe may be climbing the depth chart sooner than most expected. Seattle Seahawks depth chart As reported by ESPN, the Seahawks depth chart goes as follows: QB1: Sam Darnold QB2 Jalen Milroe QB3 Drew Lock If this truly ends up being the case, Milroe has taken major strides following his final season at Alabama. During his last year in Tuscaloosa, Milroe was criticized heavily for forcing passes into windows that weren't there after being late on reads. In his final season at Alabama, Milroe threw a career-high 11 interceptions to just 16 touchdowns, an increase of five more interceptions than he threw in 2023. Although training camp is still ongoing and the preseason games have yet to be played, clearly, Milroe is finding some success in the Pacific Northwest.

Padres already demoting one of their trade-deadline acquisitions

The Padres announced they’ve optioned JP Sears to Triple-A El Paso. They recalled reliever Sean Reynolds and will go with a nine-man bullpen in the short term. Sears will spend at least 15 days in the minors unless he’s brought up to replace a player going on the injured list. San Diego acquired Sears alongside Mason Miller in last week’s massive deadline deal. The 29-year-old southpaw made his team debut Monday night. He allowed five runs in as many innings on 10 hits and a walk against the Diamondbacks. Sears took the loss in a 6-2 defeat. He’d carried a 4.95 earned run average over 22 starts with the A’s. Monday's performance pushed his ERA to 5.12 across 116 innings. It’s a bottom-10 mark among pitchers to log at least 100 frames. Sears had the highest home run rate among that group, offsetting his nearly league-average 20.3% strikeout rate and solid 6% walk percentage. This is the first time in two-and-a-half years that Sears heads to the minors. He broke camp with the A’s in 2023 and has been in the majors since then. Sears has also avoided the injured list for that entire time. As a result, he’s tied for fifth in MLB with 87 starts since the beginning of the ’23 season. The durability is the big selling point, as his production (4.62 ERA/4.56 SIERA) over that stretch is that of a fifth or sixth starter. The demotion shouldn’t have any impact on Sears’ service trajectory. He has already surpassed the three-year mark and will qualify for arbitration next winter. He’s under team control for three seasons beyond this one. While he’ll probably be back up at some point this year, it may require an injury elsewhere in the rotation. San Diego optioned Randy Vásquez over the weekend. They have a four-man rotation of Dylan Cease, Nick Pivetta, Yu Darvish and deadline acquisition Nestor Cortes. Darvish and Cortes will get the ball for the next two outings. San Diego is off Thursday and could turn back to Pivetta and Cease on extra rest for their first two games of the weekend series against the Red Sox. That’d point to the series finale on Aug. 10 as Michael King’s return date. King threw 61 pitches in what is expected to be his final rehab start on Sunday, via the MLB.com injury tracker. He’d be on six days' rest for his first MLB appearance since he went on the injured list in late May with a nerve problem in his throwing shoulder.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce might be making major moves in Cleveland Heights

First Travis Kelce went Instagram official with Taylor Swift, and now this! The star couple might be looking to take another big step in their relationship. The New York Post reports that Swift and Kelce have "toured at least two homes in Cleveland’s Eastside suburbs in June." The outlet speculated that this area could "potentially boast the perfect home for a post-NFL retirement." The two were spotted having lunch together in Ohio this summer at JoJo's Bar in Chagrin Falls, with eagle-eyed fans noticing that the singer was even wearing her merchandise. The manager of JoJo's Bar spoke with PEOPLE at the time about Kelce and Swift's lunch date. "Taylor and Travis came in and had a wonderful time," John Ponyicky told the outlet. "They had a great lunch, enjoyed our food, and were really impressed with the team. Travis grew up in Cleveland Heights, so he decided to visit somewhere he was familiar with. He and Taylor were both really pleasant. They sat at the bar for a bit, but also had a private lunch in a private room." Kelce is very proud of his hometown, so it makes sense that he would always want to make sure he has a place to go back to there. However, including Swift in this decision proves that he is building a future with her.
