On Wednesday, New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald announced that the team has signed forward Cody Glass to a two-year contract extension. The deal carries an AAV of $2.5 million through the 2026-27 season.

It was rumored that Glass, a pending restricted free agent, wasn’t going to be receiving a qualifying offer from the Devils, which would’ve made him an unrestricted free agent on July 1. However, Fitzgerald and company felt like it was necessary to keep the former first-round pick in the fold.

It’s seemingly a continuation of Glass’ last contract, which was also a two-year deal with a $2.5 million cap hit, which he signed with the Nashville Predators in July 2023. Since then, the Winnipeg native has kind of bounced around. He was traded from Smashville to the Pittsburgh Penguins in August 2024 for Jordan Frasca and a pair of draft picks.

Then, not long before the trade deadline, he and Jonathan Gruden were traded to the Devils for Chase Stillman, Max Graham and a pick, as New Jersey tried to bolster its lineup heading into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

After the trade, Glass appeared in 14 games for New Jersey, scoring two goals and adding five assists for a total of seven points. He appeared in all five postseason games, but didn’t register any points as the Devils were knocked out by the Carolina Hurricanes.

In total, the 26-year-old appeared in 65 games, scoring six goals and 16 assists for 22 points, the second-most points Glass has scored in a single season in the NHL. It only trails his 35-point performance with the Predators during the 2022-23 campaign.

Across six seasons in the NHL, Glass has appeared in 252 games, scoring 35 goals and 58 assists for 93 points, but has no points in eight playoff games.
