The Anaheim Ducks have missed the postseason seven straight years, and are entering the offseason with plans to not make it eight straight. The team brought in former Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville, giving them an experienced leader behind the bench.
But the Ducks will need to improve the roster if they want to start contending for a title. The team has seen all sorts of trade rumors over the years, with center Trevor Zegras being at the forefront of many.
The Ducks likely don't want to part with Zegras, but in the right deal, any player can be moved. NHL writer Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report linked the Ducks with New York Rangers star wing Alexis Lafreniere.
"The Ducks have a strong farm system, plenty of young talent and enter the offseason swimming in salary cap space with a GM that already said the goal this offseason is going to be taking a big step forward to get better. Given the Rangers' needs at center, it could also be an opportunity for Trevor Zegras to be involved and get a fresh start somewhere else after another disappointing season."
Landing Lafreniere would give the Ducks another young player to work around. Lafreniere has been very good for the Rangers through his young career, but after a down season, trade rumors have begun.
Lafreniere scored 17 goals and 28 assists this past season for New York. His blend of scoring ability could fit in well with the other young players that Anaheim has.
Additionally, Lafreniere is signed through the 2031-32 season, giving the Ducks a long leash with him. Anaheim could be an interesting landing spot if New York ends up looking to make the move this summer.
