Ducks Predicted to Make Major Offseason Splash Under Joel Quenneville

After years spent at the bottom of the NHL standings, the Anaheim Ducks finally turned things around a little last season. Anaheim saw a big jump in the standings, but it wasn't quite enough to make the postseason.

The team decided it was time to get more serious and brought in veteran head coach Joel Quenneville to take over. Despite all the outside controversy around Quenneville, he has proven to be a solid coach in the NHL.

But Quenneville alone isn't enough for Anaheim to take the next step. The Ducks' front office has been primed to add major talent this offseason in hopes of breaking the long playoff drought.

With a lot of cap space to use this summer, Anaheim has been linked to some of the biggest free agents on the market. They have been rumored to be going after the biggest fish, Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs, but there are other good options as well.

NHL insider Eric Stephens of The Athletic linked Brock Boeser of the Vancouver Canucks to the Ducks in a recent article. Anaheim has the tools to make a splash this summer, and adding a division rival could be in play.

"If Marner isn’t in play, Boeser could be a good Plan B who isn’t nearly as costly. He’ll get paid and could surpass Troy Terry’s team-high $7 million AAV. But the Ducks’ salary scale wouldn’t be thrown off, and they would get a shooter whose down year of 25 goals last season would have led Anaheim. Beckett Sennecke, the No. 3 pick in 2024, won’t need to be rushed," Stephens wrote

Adding Boeser to the mix could be extremely beneficial for a young Ducks team. Not only would they be weakening a rival, but Boeser could give them a major offensive boost.

The veteran posted 25 goals and 25 assists this past season for Vancouver. His ability to put the puck in the back of the net would be solid alongside the young players on the Ducks.

Anaheim needs a "go-to" type of player, and Boeser could be that guy. Additionally, putting him alongside Chris Kreider, whom the team just traded for, could help the Ducks finally get back to the playoffs.
