Ducks Sign Tim Washe To Four-Year Extension

The Anaheim Ducks are keeping one of their recent collegiate free agent signings around through the end of the decade. According to a team announcement, the Ducks have signed forward Tim Washe to a four-year extension. Shortly after Anaheim’s announcement, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that it’ll be a four-year, $9MM ($2.25MM AAV) extension for Washe.

Regardless of the price point, Washe’s lengthy extension feels somewhat premature at face value. The Detroit, MI native has only 41 NHL games of experience and will be 30 when the contract expires. In his 41 appearances, Washe has registered two goals and five points with a -6 rating, averaging 11:50 of ice time per game. Still, he has offered decent physicality, racking up 95 hits.

Although he might be a long-term asset in the Ducks’ bottom-six, there is a lot to like about Washe. After one year with the BCHL’s Nanaimo Clippers, Washe joined the Western Michigan University Broncos for his NCAA career. Although Washe planned on staying with the Clippers for his junior career, the 2020-21 BCHL season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and he waited until the second semester to join the Broncos.

His NCAA career got off to a slow start, to say the least. By his fourth season, Washe had registered only two goals and 12 points in 38 games with a -5 rating, largely deployed toward the bottom of the Broncos’ forward corps. Everything changed during his fifth and final season at the Kalamazoo-based academic institution.

Washe was named Western’s captain ahead of the 2024-25 season, and he worked his way into the team’s top-six. He recorded his best season to date, finishing with 16 goals and 38 points in 42 games with a +22 rating. Additionally, Washe captained the Broncos to the National Championship, helping Western Michigan win its first title in program history.

After their improbable run to a National Title, Washe signed a one-year, entry-level contract with the Ducks to finish out the season. Having him under team control, Anaheim re-signed Washe to a two-year, $1.63MM ($812.5K AAV) contract last summer.
