I get asked almost daily about why the Colorado Avalanche haven’t signed or drafted DU goaltender Matt Davis. The simple answer is that he’s too old to be drafted and plans to return to school. Although he hasn’t been drafted, he’s still eligible to attend development camp for any NHL team he wants to.
It appears he has chosen the Avalanche.
The 23 year old goaltender will attend Colorado’s Development Camp, which will take place from July 3-5. Davis has not signed a contract and will go back to DU in the Fall, but this allows the Avalanche to get a closer look at him. He’s not the only DU connection that will be there. In total, there will be five players attending with DU connections, including two of Colorado’s selections at the 2024 NHL Draft.
