ECHL: Allen Americans Sign Costantini Brothers

The Allen Americans have signed 6’1″ defenseman Anthony Costantini and 6’1″ goaltender Marco Costantini from Hamilton, Ontario.

Anthony Costantini

Anthony Costantini started his junior career in the 2018-19 season, where he joined the Hamilton Kilty B’s in the GOJHL. Anthony had one assist and two penalty minutes in seven games with the Kilty B’s.

Anthony then went to the OHL, where he spent 2019-23 with the Ottawa 67’s. He was signed with the 67’s in the 2020-21 season, but the OHL season was cancelled due to COVID-19. In 193 games with the 67’s, Anthony had 11 goals and 58 assists for 69 points with 50 penalty minutes and a +33. In 13 playoff games with the 67’s, he had three assists with two penalty minutes and a -7.

After completing his junior career, Anthony signed in the AHL with the San Diego Gulls for the 2023-24 season, playing in eight games with the Gulls throughout the season. Anthony registered two assists and a -1 with the Gulls.

Anthony then spent the rest of the season with the Tulsa Oilers before spending the entire 2024-25 season with the Oilers. In 118 games with the Oilers, Anthony had three goals and 36 assists for 39 points with 22 penalty minutes and a +11.

Marco Costantini

Marco Costantini started his junior career in the GOJHL with Anthony and the Hamilton Kilty B’s. With the Kilty B’s, Marco played in 29 games where he had a record of 18-8-0 with two shutouts. He had a goals against average of 2.26 and an impressive .922 save percentage.

After one season in the GOJHL, Marco went to the OHL but stayed in Hamilton, spending four seasons playing for the Hamilton Bulldogs. He did not play in any games in the 2020-21 season due to the OHL season being cancelled. Marco played in 86 games with the Bulldogs, putting up a record of 44-28-10 with six shutouts. In 19 playoff games, Marco had a record of 16-2-1 with three shutouts. He capped it off with a save percentage of .913 and a 2.29 goals against average.

Marco’s best season was the 2021-22 season. Playing in 45 games, Marco put up a record of 31-9-4 with six shutouts on top of a 2.32 goals against average and .917 save percentage. Marco had the best goals against average, best save percentage, most shutouts, and was named to the OHL Third All-Star Team. Marco’s incredible season led the team to winning the OHL championship and earning the OHL’s Dave Pinkney Trophy, awarded to the team with the lowest GAA.

In the 2022-23 season, Marco was traded from the Bulldogs to the Kitchener Rangers, where he finished his junior career. With the Rangers, Marco played in 45 games, where he had a record of 23-16-5 with four shutouts. He had a save percentage of .901 and a 3.20 goals against average.

After completing his junior career, Marco signed in the SPHL with the Knoxville Ice Bears for the 2023-24 season. He played in five games with the Ice Bears, putting up one shutout with a record of 2-2-0, topping it off with a 1.48 goals against average and a .952 save percentage. Marco’s hot start earned him call-ups to the Idaho Steelheads and Allen Americans. Marco then re-signed with the Americans for the 2024-25 season before being released and signed by the Indy Fuel. In the ECHL, Marco has played in 27 games, earning a record of 14-6-2 with one shutout. He has a goals against average of 3.11 and a .914 save percentage.

After just one game with the Fuel, Marco decided to go overseas, playing the rest of his season in Italy with Asiago of the ICEHL. In five games, Marco had a record of 2-2-0 with a goals against average of 3.51 and a .902 save percentage.

Both of the brothers are great additions to the Americans as they are reliable on defense. Marco may not be the biggest goaltender, but he plays a big game and makes it very hard for opponents to find the back of net when he is playing. Anthony is not afraid to be up in the rush and tends to be aggressive on the puck, forcing many turnovers.

The last time the two brothers played together was in the 2018-19 season when they played for the Hamilton Kilty B’s together.
